In the light of recent events, we have adjusted the 2020 edition of the free yearly Uppsala Transposon Symposium series to be fully virtual, aiming to connect the international transposon and retrovirus community in these difficult times. We welcome abstracts on topics related to transposons, viruses, and genetic conflicts!

Motivation
Recent events have highlighted the global importance of basic and applied research, and at the same time made it difficult for the international scientific community to hold urgently needed international conferences. The 4th Uppsala Transposon Symposium aims at bringing together experts in transposon and retrovirus research under these circumstances, with a special focus on giving early-career participants the chance to present their research in a regular talk or lightning talk to a virtual audience.
Invited speakers:
- Irina Arkhipova (Marine Biological Laboratory)
- John Coffin (Tufts University)
- Molly Hammell (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory)
- Aris Katzourakis (University of Oxford)
- Alice Eunjung Lee (Harvard University)
- Kenji Kojima (Genetic Information Research Institute)
- Rita Rebollo (INRA Lyon)
- Arian Smit (Institute for Systems Biology)
- Nathan Springer (University of Minnesota)
Virtual format!
To accommodate as many time zones as possible and limited attention spans during virtual meetings, the symposium will run from 15:00-19:00 CEST on each of the three symposium days. There will be 9 invited talks (15+5 minutes) and 14 regular talks (5+3 minutes) will be selected from abstracts. All other selected abstracts will be in the format of lightning talks followed by a poster presentation. Each lightning talk will serve as an appetizer for the poster session, and we have space for up 60 lightning talk/poster presentations. Each poster session will take place in multiple parallel Zoom rooms for participants to move between. Each symposium day will be concluded by a round table discussion with the speakers and the audience, followed by the opportunity for open discussions and socializing. Please bring your own beverages!
